About
Engineering that listens.
Esyber is small on purpose. One PhD engineer at the centre, a trusted network of specialists around him, and a working philosophy that says understand the problem first, choose the technology second.
The founder
Dr Pieter Venter
Pieter founded Esyber in 2019. By then he’d already spent eight years running the electronic engineering department at a South African smart-metering manufacturer, where he led the firmware design of their flagship water meter — a device engineered to survive a decade in the field on a handful of AA cells.
His academic background sits unusually wide: a PhD in Electronic Engineering, a Master’s in Bio-Engineering, and an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science with a specialty in geopolitics and human behaviour. Research collaborations include the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (cochlear implant research) and the Media Group: Middle East in Dubai (scale-model LED systems for Al Burj).
The unifying thread is translation — between technical and non-technical, between research and product, between what the customer says they want and what they actually need. That’s the work Esyber exists to do.

How we work
Three things we won’t compromise on.
Understand before you build.
The first hour is always free. We don’t quote until we know what we’re quoting on — and a surprising number of projects end here, with a clear plan the client can execute themselves.
Ship in small pieces.
Every two weeks there’s something you can see, touch, or use. No six-month black-box projects. If we’re wrong about something, you find out early.
Hand it over properly.
Documentation, source, and the knowledge to extend it. The goal isn’t to lock you in — it’s to make sure the work outlives the engagement.
Partners
The people we work with.
Esyber stays deliberately small at the core, but rarely works alone. The strongest engagements are the ones where we bring together the right people for the problem — specialists, certification labs, contract manufacturers, and the client’s own team.
Regular partners include iSERT (RF and ICASA certification testing), Deman Manufacturing (electronic contract manufacture), and a deep network of independent specialists in mechanical design, industrial design, and back-end software.
Sectors we know
Where we’ve spent time.
- Smart metering — water, electricity, gas
- Mining and resources — sensor networks, harsh environments
- Industrial IoT and connected infrastructure
- Manufacturing — production and line-end test systems
- Defence research and capability transfer (workshops, training)
- Academic and medical-device research
Want to talk about your problem?
First conversation is free. You’ll leave it with a clearer view of the simplest solution — whether or not we end up building it.
